Romanized Cantonese Karaoke

品 “To taste” (one of the multiple meanings)

(It’s a GIF. I don’t why it doesn’t move even in here!)
Originally it begins with a bilabial consonant, p’, and ends with another bilabial consonant, m. The pronunciation is like the act of tasting. However, I think all of the Sinitic languages have lost the final m and only Korean (Hanja) and Vietnamese retain it. The romanisation I used in here is from Karlgren’s system for reconstructed Middle Chinese (中古漢語).
Korean (Hanja): pum
Vietnamese: phẩm

Support Cantonese Protest in Hong Kong?

A man painted “頂硬上” (Hit the hard), which was a chant used by Cantonese coolie in the past and also in last year Guangzhou’s Cantonese protest, on the intersection between Waterloo 窩打老道 and Cornwall 歌和老街 in Kowloon Tong.

However, the person made a mistake on the third stroke of 頂 and it becomes 項…lol

Clean-up Process

You can still see the trace now through this website.

KUDOS TO THE MAN! SALUTE!!!!
